Eoin Marron

I am a driven and enthusiastic person. I am passionate about the outdoors and am very active. I love meeting new people, whether it is for work or socially. I am a fast learner and enjoy being trained in to new skills. I also constantly try to better those that I already know. I have a very good grounding in statistics and mathematics. I can computer program in various languages and have also got experience working in labs from doing a degree in Neuroscience.

I received my Bachelor degree in 2013 for Neuroscience and Anatomy. This was done in the University College of Cork (UCC) (Ireland).

My project for this course was entitled "Analysis of neuronal activation in response to physical and psychological stressors in a model of early life stress".  This project was carried out in Cork City in the Alimentary Pharmabiotics Centre, in Prof John Cryan's lab under the supervison of Valeria Felice and Dr Siobhain O' Mahony. This work focused on how the brain of Sprague-Dawley and Wistar-Kyoto rats was effected in response to different stressors.

Following this, I went on to do a Masters degree in the field of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology.  This was again done in UCC though through the Microbiology department.

My project for this course was carried out in St. James University Hospital in Dublin (Ireland) in Prof Orla Shiels' Lab and under the supervision of Dr Gordon Blackshields. This project focused mainly at developing my competency in Python programming and R coding, while also giving me a good insight into the statistics performed on large miRNA seq expression data.  This project was entitled "miRNA Expression Analysis in Depressive Patients in Response to an ECT".

I am now a PhD applicant in the BioSys Group in the Université de Liège (ULg), Belgium.  The work I am carrying out here is into biological network validation.  Networks are certainly a way forward in Systems Biology and so the need to validate or 'test' inferred networks is great.  I have also developed my computer programming skills with great enthusiasm. Only arriving with a knowledge of Python and basic R, my repertoire was quickly expanded to include C++, PHP5, HTML5, CSS and some jQuery in under 4 months of intense coding and study.
