Secwepemc Heritage Park and Museum Field Trip '15

Students in grades 5-7 enjoyed their field trip to the Secwepemc Museum and learned about local First Nations history with exceptionally knowledgeable tour guide, Jackie Jules. We experienced what it was like to be in a Kekuli or Pit House which is the winter lodging structure of the Secwepemc. After a tour of the Museum and all the displays, we were lead though the Ethnobotanical Gardens. Plants like Sage, Mammoth Grass, Roses, Oregon Grape, Cactus and Saskatoon Berry bushes are a few examples of Indigenous plants we encountered. Ms. Jules shared traditional and medicinal uses of many plants and trees we saw.
