“How can I help my child succeed in school?”

Report cards were distributed on January 27, 2015. This is one way teachers communicate your child’s progress in class. Discuss his/her progress. “What was difficult, what was too easy?”

Here are some helpful tips for parents to help their child/children succeed in school.

1. Be involved from the get go!

Know what’s going on in your child’s school and classroom. Monitor your child’s school progress. Read the school newsletters, volunteer, show up to school events, and answer each communication. Check your child’s work, but don’t do it for him/her!

2. Partner with the teacher and school

Show up to every parent conference and school-sponsored-event. Get signed up to our JRMS Power School-Parent Portal as a way to keep updated on the academic progress of your child/children. Call for an appointment with your child‘s teachers or grade-level team if you see your child struggling or have concerns about their progress.

3. Applaud effort!

Acknowledge hard work and persistence not just the grade or the outcome. Emphasize the effort!
