District Wide Testing - ACT Aspire and Standards Based Assessment

Post date: Apr 6, 2015 1:37:46 PM

This school year (SY 2014-2015) , the district will be using two assessments in place of the SAT-10: ACT Aspire Assessment Tool and Guam Standards Based Assessment (SBA). Testing is scheduled to take place the week of May 4-May 8, 2015. For the contents of Science and Social Studies, students will take the SBA. This assessment is aligned with the GDOE Standards in these subject areas. Like the SAT-10, the SBA will be a paper-and-pencil test. Although there is a paper-and-pencil option for the ACT, the ACT will primarily use online delivery. This test will be the first time the district will deliver an online assessment using state-of-the-art technology to enhance effectiveness and support multiple devices, while also offering paper-and-pencil options. Unlike the SAT-10, which was multiple choice only, the ACT utilizes multiple question types including multiple choice, constructed response and technology-enhanced items to better assess student knowledge, improve test experiences, and provide more meaningful insights. Because the ACT Aspire is aligned to the CCSS, a clearer and more accurate reflection of the skills that students have achieved is expected. Students will take the ACT for the contents of Math, Language Arts and Reading. As we gear up for the district assessments, please help your child prepare by reviewing their assignments, assigning study time, and developing habits that will help improve their mental alertness. We highly encourage parents to take time to meet with teachers to gain more information about ACT Aspire and Standards Based Assessment.
