Lent 3 - Who Am I To God?

As we gather to pray for the City during Lent
  1. Who is God? (from last week) We must 1st take time to recognize God in our own hearts and to answer the question that Jesus asked the disciples, “Who do you say that I am?”   Journal prompts are available to explore this question on a deeper level.
  2. Who am I to God?  This question is as important as the 1st. Take time to ponder, take time to hear. Our minds are
quick to answer this question before it is even completely asked.   The busyness of our minds can keep at bay those deeper questions of the heart deadening our ears to those things God longs to say.  Take time to quiet your thoughts and feelings giving space for the Holy Spirit to be heard in the depth of your heart. Be bold and ask God, “who do you say that I am?” Than be silent to hear what God has to say to you. He has been answering this question for all of time and history and longs to whisper the answer in your ear.
Journal prompts

Writing helps us explore at a deeper level going beyond our overzealous thoughts and our eager to please emotions. The act of writing slows down our words allowing space for God’s voice. Write out the question as a prayer.  … My LORD, who do you say that I am?”  Write down the 1st few thoughts that come to mind and continue to write about them freely. Write until you are full and until you have been comforted in the knowledge of who you are to God.
