True tales of beginnings and journeys

Published Date24/05/17 10:16

Wychavon District Council has been supporting a new storytelling and visual arts project based on the themes of beginnings and journeys.

The project – known as True Tales – saw a series of storytelling workshops take place at places across Wychavon, including at Prince Henry’s High School, The De Montfort School and Blackminster Middle School (all Evesham), Garage Arts in Evesham, and a knit and natter group at Ferry View (also in Evesham). Stories were also shared by several people from Eastern Europe who have now settled in Worcestershire and the West Midlands.

Rhubarb Rhubarb Creatives recorded the stories created from the workshops based on the themes of new beginnings and journeys. The recorded stories will now inform a new visual arts exhibition called ‘Moving in: Moving On’, which will run at Evesham Library from 19 June to 8 July as part of the Evesham Festival of Words.

Artist Caroline Tredwell will be interpreting the stories and will create an inspirational contemporary installation based on the true stories from the people of Evesham young and old. The project is being produced by Arts Uplift CIC and Vale of Evesham Network of Artists, and the installation will be free to all to see.

Jenny Davis, Director of Arts Uplift CIC, said: “It’s been fascinating and inspiring listening to all of the stories that have come from such a diverse range of people at the workshops we held. I’m excited to see how Caroline Tredwell will interpret them into an interesting and enlightening exhibition for people to see as part of the Evesham Festival of Words.”

True Tales has been supported by Arts Uplift, The Elmley Foundation, Wychavon District Council, Worcestershire County Council, Vale of Evesham Network of Artists and Evesham Festival of Words.

‘Moving in: Moving on’ is free to see at Evesham Library from 19 June to 8 July.
