We have just returned from the October break in which we selected a new scholar for MUWC. The candidates undertake activities which allow us to observe their strengths and get to know them better. During one of these sessions we had a knock at the door and our very first scholar from 1998, Dr Padma, walked in to the room.
The current candidates heard about the impact the scholarship, as well as the IB programme, had on Dr Padma all those years ago. They asked her questions about MUWC and most importantly Dr Padma spoke passionately about the chosen candidates need to return to Ladakh in years to come to make an impact on the community.
We were thrilled to hear that Dr Padma has continued her good work in the field of gynaecology in the region of Ladakh.

Educating Women
Dr Padma assisted the Singapore women’s health care team lead by Dr Swee Chong. They screened 1600 women in the Nubra Valley for cervical cancer. 120 were diagnosed with pre cancerous lesions and received treatment. 3 women were diagnosed with late stage cervical cancer and were sent to Delhi for treatment. All 3 are now back in Nubra Valley.
