    My role at High Point
My main role at High Point is to support students in developing their Reading & Writing skills, in an individual or small group setting, in and out of their classroom.  I work with 1st through 5th graders.  Providing a smaller setting enables me to focus more on individual needs.    I also work closely with teachers to ensure we are working toward the same goals!

In addition, I  help during assessment and State testing times which occurs at various times throughout the year.

We are very fortunate at High Point to offer a special program called Reading Recovery to identified first graders.  This is a more aggressive intervention where I meet with the student on a daily basis for 30 minutes.  Within the framework of a Reading Recovery lesson the reading, writing, and word work is geared especially for that student.  It is used as a supplement to the classroom reading instruction.

If you have specific questions or conccerns about reading, do not hesitate to get in touch with me at the above school e-mail.  I would be happy to listen, help, suggest, or refer you to the right source to address your concern!

No matter what the grade level, your child will be expected to be doing a certain amount of nightly reading appropriate for his grade level.  One of the first things your child may hear from his/her teacher is instruction on how to choose a "just right" book.  Visit the following website  to read about some helpful hints and general information about choosing those books:   :

In general, that parent website (www.icanread.com)  is very helpful and I hope you have a chance to visit it.
