── Welcome to Dr. Chung-Ming CHANG's Laboratory ──

Dr. Chung-Ming CHANG, DVM, Ph.D. Assistant Professor

Department of Medical Biotechnology and Laboratory Science,

Chang Gung University ,

E-mail: ,

Assistant professor Chung-Ming Chang is a veterinarian; he received his bachelors and masters degrees in Veterinary Medicine from National Taiwan University. He has another masters degree in Veterinary Clinical Medicine with a specialty in avian pathology from Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire d’Alfort, France. He earned his Ph.D. in Animal Genetics from Institut National Agronomique Paris-Grignon, France. He identified one endogenous retroviral insertion in chicken which is complete associated with the recessive white mutation. Before joining the Research Center for Emerging Viral Infections (RCEVI) at Chang Gung University, he was a researcher at Pasteur Institute, Paris, and the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), where he was in charge of a research program on influenza viruses in wild birds.

One of the research interests of Chung-Ming Chang is influenza, both in human and animals, with an emphasis on ecological and epidemiological studies; another interest is the study of human endogenous retroviruses which could be associated with certain autoimmune and cancer diseases. Professor Chang has been instrumental in establishing collaborative research programs between Chang-Gung University and French partners. More recently, he became the project leader of a Taiwan-Czech bilateral research project related to human cancers; high throughput sequencing technology and bioinformatics approaches are being used in the project. Outside the laboratory and classroom, Professor Chang enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and tasting French cuisine.

Job Opportunities

A postdoctoral position is available at Chang-Gung University, Taiwan to study:

(1)Functional analysis of endogenous retroviral elements in the human genome; possible association with cancer.

(2)Expression association of human endogenous retrovirus HERV-K in patients with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis.

Applicants should have a background in the following areas:
(1) Bioinformatics, systems biology, genomics, or transcriptomics,
(2) Molecular biology.

Candidates with a background in next generation sequencing (NGS) are especially welcome.

Our lab currently uses NGS techniques, followed by appropriate bioinformatics analysis. Our goal is to find novel disease-associated genes, which may have the potential to serve as new therapeutic targets or biomarkers.

Given the interdisciplinary nature of project, the successful candidate will be involved in both computational and experimental work.  Moreover, because the PI is associated with a number of partner organizations, the post-doc can expect to have a lot of contact on both a national and international level. In addition to these exciting collaborative and research opportunities, the successful candidate will also be encouraged to attend workshops to enhance their academic experience in career development.

Interested applicants are asked to send an email entitled “Postdoctoral Position Inquiry” to Dr. Chung-Ming CHANG ( with the following information attached in PDF format:

(1) Cover letter:

Please provide information outlining your research interests and your motivation for applying towards the advertised position. Please also provide traceable information concerning your experience in bioinformatics and data analysis.

(2) CV:

Please highlight your academic/work experience, awards, publications and the names/emails of three references in your CV.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received. Successful candidates will be invited for an interview.

A. Post-Doctorates and PhD Students   (Taiwanese and Foreigners)

Post-Doctorates and PhD students are welcome to join my team. You will typically be involved in 1) the characterization of the relationships between Human Endogenous Retroviruses and autoimmune diseases; 2) infectious diseases researches in my laboratory. You will work in small interaction teams with post-doctorates, master students and research assistants.

We are using the next generation sequencing techniques followed by appropriate bioinformatics analysis. The current goal of the lab is to find novel disease-associated genes, which may be potential to be new therapeutic targets or biomarkers.

Expected qualities of applicants:

(1)Newly graduated or with a recently completed degree in biology or virology.
(2)Self-motivated and interests in virology.

Please send your CV (better in English) to Dr. Chung-Ming Chang by e-mail ( Suitable candidates will be invited for a discussion.

B. Master Students

My laboratory welcomes motivated master students. By joining my group, you will learn science from the basic to the sophisticated. You will learn new techniques and develop your critical, scientific thinking. Motivated master students usually manage to publish their work in international journals.
