Project Summary:

Galvan Foundation  is sponsoring the conversion of the Hudson Armory building, located at northwest corner of 5th and State Streets in Hudson, NY. Galvan Initiatives Foundation proposes to develop the Galvan Community Center (GCC) to serve the following functions:

·      The 12,000 sq. ft. drill hall will be the new home of the Hudson Library.

·      The 3,000 sq. ft.  rear building will be developed into a new construction 6,180 sq. ft. office space.

·      The 8,000 sq. ft. officers club will be developed into the Community Wing, including a community event space and a senior center.

Building Description:

The armory is three-story medieval gothic military style building designed by Isaac G. Perry. It was constructed in 1898, and occupied by the New York State Army National Guard in to the 1960s. It is currently being reviewed for individual listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

Program Description:

The GCC will provide rental space to community organizations providing educational, social, and health services programs.

The Hudson Area Library will operate the library. The new space will allow them to expand programs geared towards early learners, young children, teens, and adults of all ages.

The Community Wing will provide an event space that can be rented for little to no cost by community groups. The second floor will be a new Senior Center operated by the City of Hudson. Senior Center users will participate in intergenerational library programs and will have convenient access to the health center.
