Adult training for our Intermediate team takes place at Pairc Chiarain.
New members are always welcome. Contact Patrick Flynn Tel.:  087- 8068042 for details.
 

For Coaching Times for Acadmey (5,6,7 yr olds), Under 8's, Under 10's, Under 12's, Under 14's etc. Ref their link to left. All are welcome. New members will be supplied with helmets and hurls. If they wish players can purchase all gear at cost price from the club. Contact Martin Geary 087-2253350 for details.

Upping the tempo

Some Drills:

X = Cone, P=Player

Drills (1-5) start with P1

Drill 1-5 one ball per group of 6.

Drill 1 can be used as the warm up

Drill 1

                            ‘strike on RHS’--->

P5, P3, P1 X------------10/15 yds-------------X P2, P4, P6

                         <---- ‘strike on LHS

3 players on each cone.

P1 strikes out of his hand, right side, ball low (near ground) to P2 and runs to the opposite cone.

P2 moves to the ball, controls ball, takes in his hand strikes out of his hand, left side, ball low (near ground) to P3 and runs to the opposite cone.

                           ‘strike on RHS’--->

P2, P5, P3 X------------10/15 yds-------------X P4, P6, P1

                         <---- ‘strike on LHS

Repeat until everyone has had a turn

Speed up and encourage.

Note: Players should always be in ready position when not playing the ball.

Slogan is ‘Strike right going out, left coming back’

Drill 2

                           ‘strike on RHS’--->

P5, P3, P1 X------------10/15 yds-------------X P2, P4, P6

                         <---- ‘strike on LHS

3 players on each cone.

Same as drill 1 except this time the player must control the ball on the hurley (solo or a few touches) and then strikes the ball without taking it in the hand.

Note: Players still move to the ball and strike left and right same as above.

Slogan is ‘Solo and away’

Drill 3

                          ‘strike on RHS’--->

P5, P3, P1 X------------10/15 yds-------------X P2, P4, P6

                        <---- ‘strike on LHS

3 players on each cone.

Same as drill 1 except this time the player has one touch to control the ball and then strikes the ball without taking it in the hand.

Note: Players still move to the ball and strike left and right same as above.

No solo.

Slogan is ‘One touch and away’

Drill 4

                       ‘strike on RHS’--->

P5, P3, P1 X------------10yds-------------X P2, P4, P6

                    <---- ‘strike on LHS

3 players on each cone.

Move cone on P1’s side 5 yds closer to cone on P2’s side.

P1 strikes out of his hand, right side, head high to P2 and runs to the opposite cone.

P2 moves to ball, catches ball in hand, strikes out of his hand, left side, head high to P3 and runs to the opposite cone.

                           ‘strike on RHS’--->

P2, P5, P3 X------------10/15 yds-------------X P4, P6, P1

                        <---- ‘strike on LHS

Repeat until everyone has had a turn.

Competition: How many catches can a team make without dropping the ball.

Note: Players need to shorten the grip to strike ball properly. Strike off space in front of you. (You may need to show this)

Slogan is ‘Catch and strike’

Drill 5

                        ‘handpass to RHS’--->

P5, P3, P1 X------------10yds-------------X P2, P4, P6

                     <---- ‘handpass to RHS

3 players on each cone.

Same as drill 4, except player must handpass to opposite player.

Both players are moving. For example in one run P2 receives handpass from P1 and handpasses to P3.

Note: Player must put ball in front of opposite player so opposite player can see it.

Reverse direction so players are handpassing to their LHS (play starts with P2)

Slogan is ‘Catch and pass’

Drill 6

P1 and P2 have a ball each, P3 in ready stance

P1 strikes ball low (near ground) to P3, P3 moves to the ball, controls ball, takes in his hand, strikes out of his hand, right side, ball low (near ground) back to P1.

Almost immediately P2 strikes ball low (near ground) to P3, P3 moves to the ball, controls ball, takes in his hand, strikes out of his hand, left side, ball low (near ground) back to P2.

Almost immediately P1 strikes ball low (near ground) to P3, etc.

Speed it up.

Rotate so that P1 is in the pivotal position doing the work.

Rotate so that P2 is in the pivotal position doing the work.

Slogan is ’Right to right, left to left’

Drill 7

P1 and P2 have a ball each, P3 in ready stance

Same as drill 6 except one touch and away for P3, right side, left side etc

Speed it up.

Rotate so that P1 is in the pivotal position doing the work.

Rotate so that P2 is in the pivotal position doing the work.

Slogan is ’Right to right, left to left, one touch and away.’

Drill 8

P3 moves his cone 5 yds closer to P1 & p3

P1 and P2 have a ball each, P3 in ready stance

Same as drill 6 except P3 catches the ball, and returns right side, left side etc

Rotate so that P1 is in the pivotal position doing the work.

Rotate so that P2 is in the pivotal position doing the work.

Note: P1,P2 and P3 must strike the ball high into the hand which means shorten the grip.

Slogan is ’Right to right, left to left, catch and return.’

Things to note:

Hurleys too long which results in an incorrect grip. Writing hand on top at all times.

Feet must be right for striking, step into the shot (need to demonstrate).

Pick out good hurlers as an example to others.
