Under 10
Our under 10s played Clonkill in the fifth round of the Westmeath league. Thanks to the under 8 players: Paidi O Leochain, Cian Geary, Eoin Hardiman, Dano McMonagle and Donagh McCormack, who turned out so we were able to play 2 matches on the day. In the first match we played a very competitive game lining out as follows: Eoin McCarthy, Sean Murphy, Patryk Gitlar, Evan Farrell, Peter Mulvhill, Israel Kimazo, Jack McCullagh, Niall Scully and Cian McCarthy. Southern Gaels played with the aid of breeze in the first half and used it to their advantage playing some great hurling with some lovely scores coming from Israel Kimazo, Cian McCarthy and Jack McCullagh. In the second half the blanket defence was employed to keep Clonkill out and it proved very successful with great tackling in particular by Peter Mulvhill, Sean Murphy and Eoin McCarthy. Israel Kimazo, who was playing great stuff, had to go off briefly due to injury but came back on to help his teammates. Niall Scully was a constant thorn for the Clonkill defence whilst Patryk Gitlar and Evan Farrell tackled all day.
In our second match Clonkill obliged us by playing some of our extra players on their team. Unfortunately for us Paidi OLeochain and Cian Geary were in excellent scoring form for the opposition! On the Southern Gaels team Cian O'Suilleabhain and Eoin Slevin were gaining lots of possession and peppering the Clonkill goal. This seemed to inspire Darragh Elliot, Jack Keating and Tristan Connolly who were pulling on piles of ball and as the match wore on began gaining possession and striking the ball high into the opposition half. In the second half Anthony Connolly moved forward to strike a good goal and Eoin Slevin got the point his efforts deserved. Darragh Coughlan excelled all through with his tackling.
