Under 10s
Under 10 challenge match versus Padraig Pearses
 Ballinasloe, 23/5/2012
Our under 10 team played their first match of the season away to Padraig Pearses of Roscommon on the 23/5/2012. We started very well with Jack Mc Cullagh sweeping up a lot of ball around the middle. The tackling and quick pulling of Evan Farrell, Darragh Elliot and Cian O'Suilleabhain kept the ball moving forward. In the first half Niall Scully and Eoin McCarthy scored 2 points, and Cian Mccarthy scrambled a close range goal. Pearses' subs made a difference but they found our goalie Peter Mulvihill in excellent shot stopping form and his long clearances relieved the pressure on our defence. In the second half Peter came out of goals to score a great goal. Cian Mccarthy and Shaun Fox scored a point while Jack McCullagh scored 2 from long range. At the other end, although injured Eoin McCarthy hit great puckouts and Patryk Gitlar used his speed to snuff out danger. Cian O'Suilleabain did a great job as captain for the day. 2-9 was great scoring for under 10s in an impressive performance. Final score 2-9 to 4-3 (a draw)

Under10 Westmeath League Southern Gaels 1-1 Fr. Daltons 3-3
Southern Gaels put in a battling display when going down by 6 scores to 2 against a very strong Fr. Daltons team in their first league game of the season. Playing against the strong breeze in the first half it was only good defending by Shaun Fox, Jack McCullagh and Chulainn Dowd that kept the score down. With the wind behind them in the second half long clearances from Eoin McCarthy, Sean Murphy and Peter Mulvihill got the forwards more into the game. Niall Scully, Patryk Gitlar and Tristan Connolly got plenty of tackles in. This overall improvement in the second half resulted in scores from Cian Mccarthy and a pointed free from Jack McCullagh. Special mention to Charlie Kennedy who showed plenty of skill and ability on his first appearance for the Gaels. Fixture list for the Westmeath under 10 league is up on the website. Training continues on Tuesday 6.30-7.30 at Pairc Ciaran pitch and Friday 6-7 at Coosan school. All new players welcome. Contact Kieran at 0871971359 for details.

Under 8 Blitz
Our U8s visited St Oliver Plunketts club in Robinstown, Mullingar on Sat 26th for the 3rd U8 blitz of the summer.
We played Castletown Geoghan and Ringtown. Our U8s overcame Castleltown Geoghan side by a narrow margin and in second game had a great win over Ringtown. Best on the Day were Luke Whelan who battled hard in midfield, Dano McMonagle who struck the ball really well and Luke Farrell who scored a spectacular volleyed goal from 20 yards. Many thanks to parents who travelled. The U8s were treated to ice creams afterwards to round off an enjoyable trip to Mullingar.
