GAA Coaching, Foundation Level Course
Westmeath GAA ran a very successful GAA Hurling Coaching, Foundation Level Course in Athlone on the 20th and 22nd of September. Míle Buíochas to all parents who attended the Course. We had 15 coaches in attendance and it was a great introduction to all the aspects of coaching. We were shown how to maximise participation, optimise playing standards and to ensure that all players’ needs are catered for in a balanced way. The practical sessions were enjoyable and hopefully the kids will have as much fun as we did trying them out. Special Thanks must go to Liam O'Reilly and James Heffernan for coming to Athlone to run the course and engage all participants so well.

Club BBQ, The Olive, Fri. 21st Sept
Thanks to all parents, players and supporters who turned up in the Olive bar last Friday night. It was great to see so many there. Particular thanks must go to the parents who supplied the desserts. They were fabulous and more training is needed to run them off.

All Ireland Football Tickets draw
Enda Murphy won the Fund-raising Draw. Congratulations Enda and a big thanks to all our ticket Sellers. Thanks to all who supported this draw.

Maher Cup
Our junior team welcomed Cullion to Athlone on Friday evening to contest the Maher cup. This is a competition we run every year and this year the final was contested between ourselves and Cullion, the previous 2 years winners. On this occasion Cullion came away with the spoils and the trophy after a close struggle which resulted in a 1 point win for the north Westmeathmen. For Southern Gaels Jamie Anders did well to score his first goal at adult level. Tony O'Keeffe also scored a nice goal and was accurate from frees. Ronan Farrell was lively in the forwards and Kieran Carey did very well in defence.
