U10s
A busy week for our under 10s with two matches, the first against Ringtown on Monday.
All the team battled bravely against the odds in this Westmeath U10 league game in Ringtown. Eoin McCarthy, Darragh Elliot and Anthony Connolly led the rearguard action. Anthony's lift and strike without taking the ball into hand under pressure being a highlight of the first half. Cian O'Suilleabhain showed great skill and determination to charge out with the ball on numerous occasions. Cian McCarthy and Chulainn Dowd got some good strikes from the hand in midfield. Evan Farrell and Patryk Gitlar were most improved in the second half.
Our second match of the week was against Wolfe Tones and was a much improved performance with the match ending in a draw. New players Israel Kimazo and Darragh Coughlan really got stuck in. Peter Mulvihill, Shaun Fox and Patryk Gitlar looked dangerous up front in the first half but the Wolfe Tone's defence held firm. It took a long range point from Cian McCarthy to put us in the lead. In the second half a great goal from Niall Scully looked to have won the game for us but Wolfe Tones came back to draw. Israel Kimazo was unfortunate late on with a couple of rockets of shots which were blocked without the defence knowing much about them. This was our third game out of seven in the Westmeath U10 league. It's great to see the team playing so well and so many players turning up as we reach the middle of this series of games. Training continues this Tuesday at 6:30.

Under 8's
Blitz Castletown Geoghegan July 13. There was a fantastic turn-out to enable us have 2 Teams with all players getting more than 2 Full Games each. We had 5 Games and Southern Gaels dominated the first 4 games, scoring numerous great goals, super side-line cuts with some fabulous tackling and blocking by all kids from 6 to 8. The last game to close the Blitz was held v Ballymore. While all other clubs headed home, they missed a highly spirited and very competitive game in which no team was willing to give an inch. Neither Team could break each others tough defence, as the sliotar was moved from end to end in a great free-flowing game which left them dead-locked at the interval. However with light and rain closing in and the Seniors taking the pitch the; second half was put off for for another day. It will be an eagerly anticipated encounter.
Match v Padraig Pearses on July 25th. Leaving at 6.15 from Páirc Chiaran.
Match on Sunday morning July 29th as we make our way to Semple Stadium to watch the Hurling All-Ireland Quarter Finals.
