All County Hurling League Div 4

Southern Gaels 1-19  St Oliver Plunketts 2-13

Southern Gaels had an impressive win away to the Mullingar side last week in an exciting match played in Robinstown. Three early points from Tony O'Keeffe saw them off to a good start and they maintained this momentum throughout the half. Dermot Carey was also in fine form and added a well taken goal and two points. Plunkett's got back into the game with some well taken points and they goaled just before half time to leave Gaels ahead by 1-8 to 1-7.

The sides traded three points each early in the second half before a Plunkett's goal midway through saw them hit the front for the first time. However, the Athlone side responded well and scored seven points in the last quarter to Plunkett's three earn a deserved win.

Tony O'Keeffe with thirteen points was outstanding with good support from Patrick Flynn and Dermot Carey. Alan Kennedy, Eoghan Cronin and Sean Kilgarriff exceled in defense. Goalkeeper Paddy Grace made two superb saves in the second half to keep Gaels in the game at a time when Plunkett's were in control.

Southern Gaels: Paddy Grace, Sean Kilgarriff, Alan Kennedy, Donal Hurley, Trevor Farrell,  Eoghan Cronin (Capt), Fionn Dowd (0-1), Patrick Flynn, Jason Ryan, Dermot Carey(1-2), Tony O'Keeffe (0-13, 9f), Louis Page Tom O'Connor (0-2), M.J. Kelly and Colin Larkin.

Under 8s:

Our U8s made an impressive start to the season with a terrific away performance against Brosna Gaels, in Tubber, Co. Offaly.

Such was the hunger for game time, we had a fantastic turn-out of 24 players travelling to this away fixture.

Unfortunately Brosna Gaels only had 12 on the night, which meant we had to split our contingent into 2 with each playing a half v Brosna Gaels and a Half amongst each other. It was great to see every player putting into practice the skills they have learned during training.

Well done lads, keep up the good work and thanks to the parents for making the trip.

The 24 Southern Gael Under 8 Players were: Seán & Oisín O'Donoghue, Lee & TJ Turley, Cathal Hardiman, Cillian Geary, Cillian McGowan, Shane Wheatly, Thanh McCay, Cormac Murphy, Gearoid McCarthy, Ruairí O Duibhir, Donal McDermott, Liam O'Flaherty, Nathan Corcoran, Kyle  Mahon, Harry Healy, Daithí O Leochain, Eoghan West,  Sean Cosgrove, Simon O'Grady, Leon Macken, Eoin McCormack & Conor  Hughes.
