The Washington DC trip will provide Morrisonville CUSD#1 students the opportunity to meet and talk to our Legislators and their staffs, observe our National Government in action, research and explore the historical and cultural significance of the National Monuments, and explore some of the most significant Museums in the US. The trip will provide a 4 day immersion into the history, culture, and social dynamics of our Nation’s Capitol.
Juniors and Seniors were invited to participate, and 33 accepted the invitation for the December trip. Each student is responsible for all their own expenses. All arrangements are going to be made by school personnel and expenses will be kept to a minimum as much as possible. Most sites in DC have no entrance fees, so the bulk of the expense will be in hotel and food.
Trip will be bare bones without frills, utilizing a regular school bus to Washington DC. Plans presently call for a Tuesday Night December 10th departure. We’ll leave DC Saturday evening and will likely make an overnight stop in Gettysburg Sunday AM. We’ll depart that afternoon and arrive VERY late December 15th. This will allow nearly 4 full days in our Nations Capitol. This is intended as an educational trip, and will focus the operations of national government and to some extent American History. Participating students will be asked to research and act as group tour guide, for our visit to the monuments.
The trip will involve overnight bus trips on Tuesday night and Sunday night, and because we will be traveling by regular school bus, can only be described as roughing it. It will be a full 15 hour drive each way. Mr Montgomery will handle much of the driving and faculty sponsorship of the trip. We will find an additional driver to assist with driving responsibilities.
This map is a little sillier, but it represents some explorations if eating possibilities. There will be several opportunities for choice while we make our way around DC.
