An integral piece of the ePortfolio is the reflection a student composes to demonstrate the relation between his or her artifacts and the Core Competencies. This reflection creates a context that allows the viewer to gain a fuller understanding of the importance and impact of these artifacts on the growth and development of the student.
The following is the rubric used in evaluating the "reflection" component of ePortfolios. As you see below, an exemplary ePortfolio is one in which the reflection demonstrates a high level of appreciation and understanding of the link between the individual components of the ePortfolio and the "big picture." It is important for students to view the ePortfolio as more than a collection of discrete pieces of work. Everything need to tie together and be consistent with the Core Competencies. It is in the reflection where students articulate their understanding of the significance of their artifacts with respect to the Competencies.
