MISSION STATEMENT

Our Mission at Keowee Elementary School, in cooperation with home and community, is to challenge and enable every child to learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally, within a safe and nurturing environment.

SPOTLIGHT
Keowee Elementary School Anuual Valentine Carnival (sponsored by PTO)

KES held its annual Valentine Carnival on Saturday, February 4. The event kicked off at 3:30 with the King and Queen contest. All participants were recognized with a certificate and a box of candy. Grade level winners received superhero capes, and the grand prize winners also earned Amazon gift cards. These students raised nearly $2,000 for Keowee!

At 4:00, the doors opened and the festivities began. The gym was a hubbub of excitement with giant inflatables, the ever-popular cakewalk, and concession stand. With so much fun in one spot, it is believed that there were a few kids that never left the gym!

While the kids were experiencing the indoor slide and obstacle course, many adults were having their own fun playing BINGO. Alongside the BINGO players, families enjoyed dinner together. The smell of the fired-up grills drew a large crowd to the cafeteria where the Carnival Café served up fresh grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, and corndogs.

In the main building, the halls were full of new faces and familiar faces—all Keowee faces. Young and old alike, decorated cupcakes, had their faces painted, played games, and had their photos made with Super Girl and Captain America!

The evening finale created much excitement with the closing of the silent auction and the announcement of the winner of the raffle. Bidders gathered outside the media center anxiously awaiting to see if they had placed the winning bid on any of the sought-after items that included themed gift-baskets, art work, and gift certificates. This year’s raffle for a Big Green Egg outdoor cooker drew its own crowd. In addition to drawing the winning ticket, several students were recognized for being the top-sellers of the raffle tickets, and won prizes for their hard work!

For over 3 hours Saturday night, Keowee was filled with families having fun, sharing laughter, and supporting their school. This night was a huge success due only to the huge commitment of many! The carnival wouldn’t have been possible without the vision and hard work of our PTO, the multitude of donations by Keowee families, the contribution of time and manpower by faculty/staff, parents, and community friends, the support of local businesses, and of course, the enthusiasm of the students.

For the love of one school, we all came together—for the love of every Keowee kid, we all came together.

Keowee Elementary Chorus
Keowee Elementary is proud of our Keowee Chorus for the great job they did, along with other Walhalla area schools, singing the national anthem at the Walhalla High School football game on September 23. Our chorus will perform again at the Festival of trees fundraiser to support Hospice on Tuesday, November 29th. Three of our chorus members were chosen to represent Keowee in February as members of the SC Elementary Honor Choir at the State Music Education Conference in Columbia. Two students were also selected to represent Keowee at the regional ACDA Elementary Honor Choir on October 8 at Southern Wesleyan University.

Congratulations to Keowee Chorus and thank you for your dedication and hard work to make your Chorus outstanding.

Family Literacy Night
We had a lot of fun celebrating literacy during our pirate themed Family Literacy Night on October 4th. Children  and parents had opportunities to read together, create their own books and make conversation journals. Parents spentt time making some hands on activities they could use at home to encourage reading and discussion. Kids had fun making bookmarks of all sorts! As a school we also collected gently used books for a local family assistance organization. We love celebrating all the wonderful reading, writing and thinking our students do in all areas of their lives!
