What is a virtual field trip?

Virtual Field Trip:
Can be online or via videoconferencing. If online, the class uses a web site created by the instructor to "visit" a setting by viewing pictures, video and/or audio clips, and reading the text provided. If through videoconferencing, the class is connected to experts in a particular field or to other student 'hosts" at a remote location, all via videoconference.

Virtual Field Trip:
a guided exploration through the world wide web that organizes a collection of pre-screened, thematically based web pages into a structured online learning experience.

Virtual field trips can range from simple websites with pictures and text to elaborate interactive sites.
They can be completed whole-group or individually.  They can be used before learning about a topic to peak student interest, after learning about a topic to review, or as a means of differentiation for students that need reinforcement/enhancement.
