The Urinary System by David
The urinary system is a stystem that contains organs that produce, collect, and eliminate waste, such as urine, from the body. In other words, it collects cell waste that stay in the blood and also controls the blood volume.
The hypothalamus is an organ in the brain that controls and regulates the amount of water in the blood. Sometimes there is too much water, so the hypothalamus sends a sinal to the kidneys telling them to decrease the water amount, and to increase the amount of urine. If there is too little water in the blood, the hypothalamus sends a signal to the kidneys to increase the amount of water, and to decrease the amount of urine.
Kidneys are the main organs in the urinary system. The kidneys filter the blood. In this process, blood enters the kidneys through the aorta. The blood passes through the neuphrons, and water, sugar, salt, and other waste in the blood pass through a cuplike structure. The water, sugar, and salt are reabsorbed by the capillaries. Then the purified blood is returned to the to the blood by the renal vein. After that urine is drained from each collecting tubule into the funnel shaped areas in the kidney. This urine flows from the ureters to the bladder to be excreted. Then the urine flows from the bladder through the urethra and out of the body. Another urinary organ is the liver. The liver produces many enzymes and chemicals. One of them is urea. Urea ends up in urine.
Diseases of the Urinary System
Infections can always occur in the bladder. If they do form, they can spread to the kidneys and cause kidney failure. Kidney failure is very terrible. When your blood is not filtered it can act like a poison in your body, which can ruin your body. If your ureters or urethra become blocked, it can interrupt the flow of urine and ruin your kidneys. Men sometimes have kidney stones. They will most likely not kill you, but they should hurt a lot. The ureter is a tube probably around the diameter of a straw. When a stone passes, the stone has to travel through this tube. It hurts as much as a women having a baby. Urine tests and color can detect any disorders in your urinary tract. There are more diseases and disorders or the urinary system, but there were just a few.
