Red Top Mountain State Park is one of the most visited parks in the Georgia system. Situated on 12,000-acre Lake Allatoona it is ideal for swimming, boating and fishing. Visitors can bring their own boats or rent from Park Marine. Twelve miles of hiking trails wind through the park, providing opportunities for exercise or relaxation. Wander around a reconstructed 1860s homesite, including a log cabin and blacksmith shop. The cabin is where we have our music series and our homestead special events. Named for the soil's rich red color caused by high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important iron mining area.
Almost 1 million visitors come to Red Top each year making Red Top a vital part of the Cartersville economy and tourism industry. Based on annual figures from the US Travel Association, visitation in these numbers equates to over $45 million for the Bartow County area and its local businesses. Not only is Red Top a fine example of the best Georgia has to offer, it is also a critical component of the local economy.
