Mountain Cove Discovery Room
We are delighted to report that the Discovery Room has some new residents! Our program animals have all been moved into their new homes at the Discovery Room. You can get up close and personal with a box turtle corn snake and more! Stop by to see the new homes!
Meteors and More program on Saturday, November 13. This is our second official program in the Discovery Room and we've learned something new each time. Last year's Meteors and More program drew over 100 guests and we needed to figure out seating for that many. We were able to combine our new chairs with some of the chairs left over from the restaurant to provide seating for 95. Our new TV should be installed this week just in time for the program!
Unfortunately, the buffet simply doesn't offer enough room for a TV as big as we need. We came up with the idea of building a small bridge over the old sneeze guards to set the TV on. The fabulous maintenance staff at Red Top came up with an even better idea. They extended the old sneeze guards with some expert carpentry and even found the original tile. They are working to provide a much more finished look! Here's a look at the progress! You can see the tile sitting on the bar waiting to be installed.
After the Mountain Cove Restaurant closed, many of the furnishings were reappropriated to other sites in the state park system. For seating, we were left with 34 heavy, very heavy, restaurant chairs. While they were a good start, we know they won't hold full crowds at some of our more popular programs. Today, we unloaded 50 brand new folding chairs. They're very nice. But most of all, they're very light! Guests will certainly enjoy their new "parking spots."
