Kids World Book

Kids World Book is a fun interactive online encyclopedia, bringing students closer to finding reliable information at their level.  Each category is filled with specific activities for students to grow and learn from.

  • Featured Video-is an informational video that changes every time you refresh the page.  Use it as a fun informational video daily.
  • World of Animals and Compare Places – an online comparison of two animals or places of the student’s choice.
  • Maps and More- Students can find interactive maps with information about each location.  Teachers can also find outlined maps that are printable for in class or homework use.
  • Dictionary- explains what a dictionary is and how to use it.  There is a fun tool throughout the site in which students can double click on a word to access the definition if they need it.
  • Games and Activities- There are educational games that students can choose to play to reinforce different topics.  The activities section seems to focus on fun things to print out or do in the classroom based on the activity the child focuses on.
  • Science projects- Fun projects to try at home and in the classroom, with easy to follow instructions.
  • Important People- Great for finding a person of interest and information on that person.

Articles in Kids World Book

Articles in Kids World Book are reliable sources with up to date information.  It has a condensed version of a full article located in Student World Book, which can be accessed through the main menu or at the bottom of each article searched.

Articles may contain:

  • Videos – videos are educational and age appropriate
  • Pictures- are age appropriate and can be copied and pasted into other documents, as well as printed.
  • Save- articles can be saved as HTML or PDF format to a computer.
  • E-mail-articles can be emailed as HTML or PDF format.
  • Citation Information- student will be able to see how their article should be sited in MLA, APA, and Harvard format.
  • External Websites- will give students access to other age appropriate links for finding information on their topic.
  • Educator Tool- will help teachers with Content Standards and Curriculum Correlations.
  • Games and Activities- This can help teachers and students see related games or activities that go with that specific topic and article.
  • Lexile Levels- the Lexile Level of the article is always on the top left hand corner.

Student World Book

Student World Book is a fun interactive online encyclopedia, bringing students closer to finding reliable information at their level.  Each category is filled with specific activities for students to grow and learn from.

  • Featured Video-is an informational video that changes every time you refresh the page.  Use it as a fun informational video daily.
  • Research Tools- Compile, create, and save your research projects with World Book's research tools.  It contains a place to save articles and media.  There is a Citation Builder to help students site their work, as well as a guide to teaching what is research and research skills for both student and teacher.
  • Biography Center- Great for finding a biography of interest and information on that person.
  • Quizzes and Activities- quizzes students can take online as well as fun activities based on different eras in time. World Book featured sites in case students want to explore outside of World Book.
  • Behind the Headlines- current events, updated daily.
  • Explore- area for students to explore all types of information on certain topics of World Books choice.

Articles in Student World Book

Articles in Student World Book are reliable sources with up to date information.  It gives students the option to read the condensed and full article by clicking on the types of articles at the bottom of the search box.

Students will be able to see both types of articles side by side on the screen.



Articles may contain:

eBooks in World Book

 

Students have access to electronic books through World Book.  This can be used as a classroom teaching tool, to learn text features or as informational text.  Students can also access eBooks and save books they would like to read on their own Bookshelf.  Ebooks are categorized by series or can be searched by topic.  Each book has a Table of Contents, Highlighting capabilities, bookmark and Note Taking areas.

 

 

WB eBooks App

 

Apple app that supports the World Book eBook Shelf.  Any book students read will appear on their shelf.  Students can access just their bookshelf through the App.

 


World Book Timeline

Timeline is a place to not only create Timelines, but finding ones already created through World Book. Timelines can be created by adding media through World Book or uploading your own photos.  Students can use the same password throughout, to access saved Timelines.
