Goals and Services
My mission as the C.R. Applegate School Counselor is to develop positive relationships with all students and enhance their lives through activities, lessons, and conversations that reinforce their learning and development. I promise to support every child's academic, personal, emotional and social growth so that they can become productive students, successful citizens, and lifelong leaders.
Components of the School Counseling Program
--Support group sessions organized around a topic of need or interest for several students within the same grade level; the topics include organizational and study skills, goal-setting, stress/anxiety, social skills, divorce, and anger management
--Lunch Bunches which are small group sessions that provide all students the opportunity to build relationships with each other and the counselor; students participate in activities that build communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and leadership skills; every student is invited to at least one lunch bunch per year
--Individual counseling services that are action-oriented and solution-focused based on the needs of the individual; during counseling sessions, students learn to cope with difficult life events, recognize their potential, share their feelings, develop problem-solving skills, and build self-esteem and confidence
--School-wide classroom guidance lessons addressing such topics as empathy, self-esteem, tolerance, bullying, peer relationships, and personal safety
