Health screenings are performed early in the school year. Screenings vary depending on the age of the student.
**If you would like to have these screenings deferred to your child's health care provider, please send me an email to lmodafferi@fredon.org.
Height, Weight and BMI (Body Mass Index) Annual height and weight measurements provide a simple, effective method of identifying significant childhood health problems. BMI will be calculated for each student.
B/P (Blood Pressure) Identification of children who have elevated B/P allows the student's health care provider to evaluate the cause and institute proper treatment to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease as they grow into adulthood.
Hearing To identify students with any hearing loss that may impact their intellectual, emotional, social, speech or language development.
Vision Vision screenings focus on visual acuity and color discrimination and are designed only to identify students who may need further evaluation.
Scoliosis A lateral curvature of the spine is most commonly detected during the adolescent growth period. Scoliosis screenings are performed in Grade 5.
Parents will be notified if any of the above screenings fall outside of the normal range for the student. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
