About Ms. Derise
Ms. Derise is new this year to the Franklin Avenue Middle School. She was awarded Teacher of the Year for the 2017-2018 school year in her previous district and has four years of experience teaching middle school science. Ms. Derise graduated from William Paterson University and holds a B.A. in Elementary Education with a Middle School Concentration and a B.A. in Integrated Math and Science with an Environmental Science Concentration. Ms. Derise has a love for all sciences, but zoology and marine biology hold a special place in her heart.
Ms. Derise's goal, as an educator, is to learn who each and every one of her students are, and to provide them with all of the tools they need to be the best they can be. She aims to spark the curiosity of her students and foster an environment where students can feel comfortable to express themselves freely. Ms. Derise believes that there is no better way to truly gain knowledge than to get your hands dirty. She makes it a priority to make sure students are intrigued by science in hands on learning experiences that allow them to fully immerse themselves in their own learning experiences.
