Ms. Meara has taught in Franklin Lakes since 1984. She has taught third and fourth grade, language arts enrichment, literacy intervention, sixth grade language arts, and happily returned to third grade at Woodside Avenue School in September 2013. Her varied career has enabled her to spend time in all four schools in the district. She was graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BA in Elementary Education from Fairleigh Dickinson University and has earned an MA in Reading and Language Arts from William Paterson University. She holds a license as a Certified Reading Specialist. She has obtained thirty additional Graduate credits through course work at several universities in New York and New Jersey and has been trained in the Readers and Writers Worshop at Columbia University. Ms. Meara was the recipient of the NJ Governor's Teacher Recognition Award in the year 2000. Ms. Meara was the district trainer for the 4MAT method of teaching and planning units. She believes in balancing student activities between "left" and "right" brained applications and providing students with opportunities to express their knowledge in modalities that favor their learning styles.
