Mrs. Smolenski is excited and proud to support HMR students as a 5th grade homeroom and math teacher. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematical Science, with a minor in Statistics, from Clemson University. After moving to New Jersey in 1986, she worked in the systems engineering program for Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and then worked as a systems analyst, corporate trainer, and account manager for Federated Department stores. While raising her three children, she received certifications to teach Elementary School and Middle School Mathematics. She became a member of the CSI Math team in 2009 and provided instruction to students in Kindergarten through grade 5 before joining the HMR 5th grade team in January 2012. Mrs. Smolenski is excited to continue sharing her passion for learning and mathematics with HMR students.

5th Grade Teaching Philosophy:

As 5th grade teachers, we believe that every child can succeed when provided a safe and positive learning environment. We recognize that each child learns differently, and we strive to reach each learner in an effective and efficient manner. It is our mission to prepare students to be lifelong learners and foster the ability to become responsible citizens. Through active learning and a variety of cooperative learning experiences, students will be able to further develop their skills in preparation for middle school and beyond.
