I am eager to begin the 2016-2017 school year here at FAMS. As 6th graders embark on this new adventure into Middle School it will be a very new, and exciting time for them. Before working at FAMS I was a proud Scarlet Knight at Rutgers University, earning my B.A. in Psychology and History and M.Ed in Early Childhood Education with a specialization in Middle School Social Studies. During my time at Rutgers, I competed on the Womens Soccer Team playing in two NCAA tournaments and four Big East Championship tournaments. Continuing my love for the sport and working with children, in my free time I coach a competitive youth soccer team, enjoy visiting new places, hiking, reading, and soaking up the sun at the beach during summer time.
Middle School is a time of many changes for students, and can sometimes bring challenges both academically and personally. I believe organization, responsibility, and respectful behavior are important characteristics that I will look to encourage and elicit from all students in my classroom. I am excited to share my passion for the discipline this year to encourage students to analyze the world we live in and the many historical implications of cultures around the world that have brought us to where we are today. The greatest learning takes place when authentic connections are made to the material; through hands-on activities, students are involved in their own learning, engaged and motivated to think critically, work collaboratively, and share eloquently through class discussions and writing. I have high expectations for my students—knowing that they are ALL capable learners.
Here's to a fabulous school year!!
