Jodee Mellerio, LCSW

Jodee Mellerio is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW).  She has worked for a number of years with individuals, families, and groups in both an agency setting and also in private practice.  In her private practice, she works with a diverse clientele comprised of both adolescents and adults with depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, loss and grief issues, identity issues, trauma, attachment and parenting issues.  The focus of treatment is to assist clients in identifying their individual strengths and utilizing those strengths to move forward on the journey to live life more fully.

Ms. Mellerio used to run the NOVA Adoptive Family Preservation grant administered by UMFS for the state of Virginia DSS.  This program provided clinical supports and services to adoptive families to stabilize adoption placement.  These adoptive families were created from the placement of adolescent children adopted from the foster care system and from international institutional settings.  Ms. Mellerio was responsible for seeing adoptees and their parents in a therapeutic setting addressing the many emotional and familial issues relating to adoption.

Ms. Mellerio has had the opportunity to lecture on occasion to Virginia State policy makers as well as Virginia Commonwealth University’s Graduate School of Social Work students.  She is originally from sunny California, but has called Virginia home for the past 23 years.  Ms. Mellerio received her MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University, but acknowledges her greatest teachers are her own two teenaged daughters—both of whom have taught her about the joys and challenges of parenting and building loving, life-long relationships.
