My name is Janis Kendell and I have been living in Fort McMurray and working with the Catholic School District for the last 14 years. I moved here from St. Alban’s NFLD, and I am raising my son here. We are both very happy to be a part of the Fort McMurray community. For the last 9 years I have been at Father Beauregard School, my first six years as an Educational Assistant and this will be the start of my 3rd year here as our FNMI Liaison.
I am First Nations Status, Qalipu Mi’Kmaq. In my role as FMNI liaison, I run a breakfast and lunch program in the gathering room for any students who forget their lunch or are in a rush in the mornings and end up skipping breakfast. I offer support in all the classes. I run a homework club during lunch recess on Tuesday and Thursday. On full day Fridays, I do Aboriginal crafts for all of our classes to take part in. You will see me during parent/teacher night making yummy Aboriginal treats for families to enjoy. I am looking forward to working with you and your children this school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me anytime at the school. (780) 799-5767 or by email email@example.com.
I am also very interested in hearing from parents that are willing to come into our school to share any knowledge and experiences they may have about their Aboriginal Ancestry.
