1940 Census Release

On April
2, 2012, NARA will provide access to the images of the 1940 United States Federal Census for the first time. Unlike previous census years, images of the 1940 U.S. Federal Census will be made available as free digital images.

When the 1940 U.S. Federal Census is released, The FLGenWeb Project will participate in the 1940 U.S. Census Community Project and immediately start indexing these records to make them searchable online with free and open access.

The 1940 U.S. Census Community Project needs volunteers from genealogical and historical societies and the community.  Groups and individuals can provide expert help to transcribe census records from the areas where they live or have interest, creating an accurate, searchable index.

It will be an exciting time for family historians and volunteers.  Volunteer now.
