Volusia County was established in 1854. It was named for the port of Volusia along the St. John's River on the county's western side. The origins of the word "Volusia" are unclear, though there are several theories.
Volusia County is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the East and the following counties surround it: Flagler on the north,
Brevard and Orange to the south; Seminole on the southwest; Lake County towards the west; and Marion and Putnam on the northwest.
This county is in need of a volunteer coordinator or a local assistant coordinator.
