STUDIO in ART
Concentration: This is a 1 credit foundation course to introduce basic concepts and skills in the various areas of art.
Studio Art concentrates on development of your own unique style and increased level of competence in using the elements and principles of art. You will learn to use the language of art and understand its place in society and culture. Various art professions will be explored and you will be expected to select and use different mediums to convey ideas, themes, or subjects.
Requirements:
Come to class ON TIME, prepared with pencil and good attitude.
3 Lates = lunch detention, call home
5 Lates = after school detention, call home
Leave cell phone and ipod in locker or in classroom basket.
1st offense: warning
2nd: lunch detention
3rd: after school detention, call home
Participate in all critiques and class discussions, they are considered heavily in grading.
Give 100% creativity…NO SLACKING!
Projects are due ON TIME! And must demonstrate your understanding of the assignment as well as all accompanying work (sketches, planning, evaluations…etc.)
Clean up after yourself…Mrs. C. Sawyer is not your maid!
Grading:
It’s not just the end product that counts!!
50% Projects (grading rubric will be provided for each project)
20% Effort/Concepts
20% Participation/Critiques/Self-Evaluations
10% Sketching/Planning (this also includes any homework assignments)
Projects:
8 – 10 projects for the course (depending on time). These projects will cover various themes and styles, as well as use various materials to accomplish the task. Some flexibility and choice of materials is allowed to complete these assignments to encourage creative, individualized problem solving. Specifics will be introduced during the course. Examples are, perspective drawing, life drawing with colored pencil, contrast-o board, plaster sculpture, painting, computer art, and paper sculpture.
Extra credit is available at any time by bring in such items as newspaper, magazines, sturdy cardboard, clean white sheets, paper towel rolls, plastic containers, and various household items.
