    Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park

    After 74 years leading the way in motorsports – introducing the first purpose-built road course and first asphalt high-banked oval in America – Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP) is now proud to offer even more. Be the first to ever run on the 1.7 mile Road Course on your feet and not a car, Bike the Oval leading onto the 12 mile bike course on the quiet country roads of Thompson and finish on the 1.7 Road Course in the center of the speedway!

    A first class Golf Club, our Clubhouse restaurant with a banquet and catering facility, our exclusive Drivers Club, and a High Performance Driving Experience. TSMP is centrally located between Boston, Providence and New York City, and just 45 minutes from Mohegan Sun. Although we’ve been a racetrack since 1940 and a golf course since 1947, we never stop improving.

    Race Venue Activities

    Come to race, but stay for the festivities. Your duathlon experience includes a DJ playing great music, yummy post race treats, and sponsor giveaways. Have a Burger and a Beer at the concession stands, check out the Nascar Racing Cars, see the Youth track, check out the new pro shop.  Stop at Bogey's Ice Cream
     

     






    Race Divisions and Awards

    Standard USA Triathlon age group divisions in five year increments are employed for this event, for example: 30 to 34 years, 35 to 39 years, etc. Age group is determined by age as of December 31, 2014. There is a Clydesdale category for men who weigh 220+ pounds and an Athena category for women who weight 150+ pounds. Also there is a relay category for two person teams.

    Awards are given to the top three finishers in each age group, and in the Clydesdale and Athena divisions, and to all three members of the top male relay team, top female relay team, and mixed relay team. And a random award or two may be given out at the race director's discretion.



    USA Triathlon Sanctioned Event

    This is a USA Triathlon Sanctioned Event managed by a USA Triathlon Certified Race Director. All athletes either must present a valid USA Triathlon annual membership card at registration or purchase a single day USA Triathlon license, no exceptions. Single day licenses may be purchased for $12 during the registration process. If you are planning to do at least three USA Triathlon sanctioned events in a one year period then you might want to purchase an annual membership from USA Triathlon for $45.

    Vmps, the official triathlon training & coaching organization for the F.I.R.M. Race Series, can help you achieve your endurance sports goals. They offer open water swim clinics, an open water swim training race series, coached swim workouts, a time trial series, sports nutrition services, and personal coaching services for beginners through elite. 

    Their triathlon training center in Millbury, Ma includes a cycling studio and retail store with bikes, wetsuits, wetsuit rentals, triathlon clothing, triathlon gear, and sports nutrition products. Plus their triathlon team provides a welcome opportunity for like-minded folks to train and race together. With their combined offerings, Vmps provides you with everything you need for your multisport lifestyle.

    From Lower Conn. & Points South

    Take Rt. 95 North to New London.  Take Rt. 395 North to Exit 99.  Go right at end of exit ramp to the center of village.  Turn left on Rt. 193.  Go approx. 1 mile to East Thompson Rd.

    From upper NY, Greater Boston Area

    Use the Mass Tpke. leaving at Exit 10 and turn onto Rt. 395 South to Exit 99.  Turn left at end of exit ramp to center of village.  Turn left on Rt. 193.  Go approx. 1 mile to East Thompson Rd. 

    From Maine, Nashua, NH, Lowell-Lawrence, Mass Area

    Take Rt. 495 to Rt. 290.  Go South on 290 to Rt. 395 South.  Get off at Exit 99.  Turn left at end of exit ramp to center of village.  Turn left on Rt. 193.  Go approx. 1 mile to East Thompson Rd.

    From Providence, RI

    Take Rt. 44 west to Rt. 395 North, Exit 99.  Go right at end of exit ramp to center of village.  Turn left on Rt. 193.  Go approx. 1 mile to East Thompson Rd.

    USA Triathlon Rules
    USA Triathlon rules apply. The most commonly violated rules are drafting, blocking, and crossing the center line of the road. To avoid a drafting penalty, stay at least three bicycle lengths behind the rider in front of you and complete any pass within fifteen seconds. If you are overtaken, you must drop back three bicycle lengths before attempting to pass. To avoid a blocking penalty, ride to the right of the road except when passing other competitors. To avoid a center line penalty, do not cross the center yellow line of the road.

    Helmets with the chin strap fastened are required whenever you are on your bike. Bar end plugs are required on handlebars and aero bars; taping over the bar ends is not permitted. Head phones and music players are strictly prohibited.


    ChampionChip Timing Systems

    ChampionChip Timing Systems is used to time this event. A timing chip attached to a black velcro strap is provided in each competitor's race bag. The timing chip must be worn on the left ankle at all times during the race for an official race time to be recorded. Return the timing chip to a volunteer at the finish line to avoid the $30 replacement fee. Race results are posted at the race venue, and on www.firm-racing.com and www.coolrunning.com

    Not racing, but want to be a part of this event? Then volunteer. It's a fun way to help others enjoy this sport. Volunteers receive a tech race shirt, post race food, and a sense of satisfaction from helping others. Email Wendy atwendy@firm-racing.com to volunteer.



    Refund & Exchange Policy

    Participants may receive a refund of the entry fee minus a $25 processing fee if they cancel their registration at least 7 days before the event takes place. Entries to a FIRM event may be changed to another FIRM event in the same season if notification of the change is made at least 7 days before the event takes place. All requests for refunds or exchanges must be made in writing. Email requests towendy@firm-racing.com. If you do not receive a confirmation of the request within 24 hours of making the request, forward your original request to wendy@firm-racing.com. Save the confirmation for your records.

    No refunds will be made if an event is cancelled due to circumstances beyond the race director's control such as but not limited to inclement weather, unsafe racing conditions, or the decision of town administrators or safety personnel. Entries would be moved to the following year's event. Events may be changed in distance or event nature for safety or other reasons at the discretion of the race director.
