    About the Stratton Mountain Triathlon

One of New England's best kept secrets is summer in Vermont. Warm days and cool nights in a rustic mountain setting makes Vermont a wonderful destination location for a multisport festival featuring the Stratton Mountain Triathlon, a sprint distance triathlon that lets you swim, bike, and run in one of the prettiest parts of the USA.

    The Race Course

The half mile swim takes place in Stratton Mountain's Snow Pond. In the winter, this man made pond produces snow when mother nature doesn't. In the summer, it is a wonderful setting for a triathlon swim. The bike course is classic New England cycling-- over hills and past farms dotting the countryside. The run follows a dirt road beside the mountain before finishing under the huge F.I.R.M. arch.

The male winner will be awarded the QR Seduza, and the female winner will be awarded the QR Dulce.

    Race Divisions and Awards

Standard USA Triathlon age group divisions in five year increments are employed for this event, for example: 30 to 34 years, 35 to 39 years, etc. Age group is determined by age as of December 31, 2012. There is a Clydesdale category for men who weigh 200+ pounds and an Athena category for women who weight 150+ pounds. Also there is a relay category for two person teams.

Awards are given to the top three finishers in each age group, and in the Clydesdale and Athena divisions, and to all three members of the top male relay team, top female relay team, and mixed relay team. And a random award or two may be given out at the race director's discretion.

    USA Triathlon Rules

USA Triathlon rules apply. The most commonly violated rules are drafting, blocking, and crossing the center line of the road. To avoid a drafting penalty, stay at least three bicycle lengths behind the rider in front of you and complete any pass within fifteen seconds. If you are overtaken, you must drop back three bicycle lengths before attempting to pass. To avoid a blocking penalty, ride to the right of the road except when passing other competitors. To avoid a center line penalty, do not cross the center yellow line of the road.

Helmets with the chin strap fastened are required whenever you are on your bike. Bar end plugs are required on handlebars and aero bars; taping over the bar ends is not permitted. Head phones and music players are strictly prohibited.

The timing chip must be worn on the left ankle at all times during the race for an official race time to be recorded. Return the timing chip to a volunteer at the finish line to avoid the $30 replacement fee. Race results are posted at the race venue, and on www.firm-racing.com and www.coolrunning.com
