Music

I love music, almost all kinds and almost all of the time. I love listening to it, making it (with flute or accordion), and singing. I like popular music, classic music, and music from around the world. In fact, some of my favorite music is from Germany and Australia. Music is such a large part of my life, I find it hard to be productive without some music playing lightly in the background and often catch myself humming softly as I walk.

Reading

As long as I can remember, I have loved reading, and I spend a fair amount of my “copious free time” reading. My junior year in highschool, I kept a log of every book I read. By the end of the year, I had finished 73 books, mostly science books and science fiction novels. I have a couple of hundred books in my office at work and three or four times as many at home.

Traveling

I love traveling around the world visiting new countries and taking in the local culture. Although I am not able to travel as much as I used to when I was self employed and traveling the conference and training circuit, I still try to get out of the country at least once a year.

Wood Working

Ever since high school woodshop, I have loved working with wood. I especially like wood carving and turning wood on a lathe. There is something strangely facinating about removing wood chips and wood shavings to reveal the object hidden inside.

Magic Wands

For the last decade or so, my favorite books and movies have been in the fantasy genra. I loved the Harry Potter books and movies. I was intreaged by the textbooks at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and always wished that J.K. Rolling would have written some of them for her fans. Tired of waiting, I started writing my own fantasy textbook on Wandlore. It wasn’t long before I decided to combine my love of writing with my love of woodworking, and thus was born Feuerschmied’s Magic Wand Shoppe.

So far, I have crafted about 20 wands made from combinations of Ash, Cherry, Holly, Mahogany, Maple, Oak, Pear, Poplar, and Willow. To make them distinctive, I am also mounting ambers, amethysts, blue topazes, citrines, garnets, onyxes, opals, peredots, rock crystals, rose quartzes, and white moonstones on their tips and ends.
