Welcome to Honors Algebra. Since you have elected to takes honors you are expected to do more work than an average algebra student. My expectation of an honors student is, a student that uses resources, other than asking someone how to do a problem, to complete a math task. For example most students when presented with a math problem will first ask someone how to do it, usually is the teacher. I would expect you as an honors student to use available resources like your math book or the Internet etc. to figure out how to do a problem. Asking someone should be the last option not the first.
As an honors student you will be given a set of problems weekly to hand in. You also will be quizzed on these periodically. This means you need to know how to do the problems on your own. Copying or asking someone for help is dishonorable! As an honors algebra student you will also be expected to plan one lesson for the class that could be taught to the algebra students. This lesson is due before Christmas break. The lesson should contain notes, practice problems, home work and a short quiz. Creativity is encouraged.
In the past some honor students have carried a C average, I expect you to have a high B or A average if you are in honors. This is not to discourage you from the honors program, but to encourage you to do your best .
