In addition to Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL) high school courses, the Fife School District also offers World Language Credit by Proficiency for any language. Students who speak other languages may take a proficiency test in that language and earn high school world language credit. Students are assessed in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Students can earn up to a maximum of 4 high school credits through this program and can test any year during 8-12 grades. These credits will apply toward World Language high school graduation credits. If two or more credits are earned, it will also meet the college entrance requirement of two years of a world language. The Fife School District is part of a statewide initiative to recognize the diversity of our students' language competencies.
Seniors can earn the Washington State "Seal of Biliteracy" for Graduation
Students who are proficient in a language other than English and earn 4 World Language credits by competency testing graduate with a Seal of Biliteracy on their diploma and wear a medallion at graduation.
