Classroom Happenings:
Math: Due to the M-STEP, our lessons have been slightly interrupted. However, as of Tuesday, we will begin our regular schedule. For the past few weeks, we have been reviewing what we learned in Unit 9, which is area and volume. Students should know how to obtain the area and volume of different shapes, including a cone and pyramid.
Science: We continue our unit on Animal Body Systems. By the end of the unit systems need to articulate the major functions of each body system: Nervous, Circulatory, Respiratory, Digestive, Muscular/Skeletal, and Excretory. We will focus on the Nervous System as the control center for the body.
Language Arts: We will begin reading an article on the Galapagos Islands. At the end of the week students will have the opportunity to choose one of the endangered animals to study. We will use subjunctive verbs to make recommendations and suggestions regarding conservation of their habitat.
Social Studies: We have concluded our unit on the American Revolution. Students should understand the difference between the Continental Congress and the British, as well as who had the power and motivation to win the war. Students should also know about Bunker Hill, Valley Forge, and the Treaty of Paris.
Reading: We continue reading El Timo, our Mystery book. (Jenison)
Sra. Gongora's class is doing a Spanish read aloud, and will also start Sign of the Beaver.
