English 10

Nothing happens unless first a dream.

- Carl Sandburg

English 10 is the study of American Literature, grammar, rhetorical devices in writing and speaking, and vocabulary. Through the literature we will look at the time periods of our country and how the American Dream has evolved. We will examine the growth of our country and the contributions of immigrants and groups to the American Dream. You will be asked to think about the dream and what it means to you. We will also work to examine the past's relevance to you and your future.

We will also continue to work on the grammar that you learned last year as a freshman and build upon it with more complex writing assignments. We will work toward the development of a paper that analyzes another writer's development of ideas and writer's craft to prepare you for your SAT writing next year.

This will be a challenging year where you will stretch your mind. The material will be rigorous, but I want you to think your own thoughts and ask questions about your world. Thinking and challenging yourself will make the material relevant as we make connections to our present and your future.

One of my dreams when I was your age was to teach - Really! I hope to learn about you and your dreams and watch you grow as students and young adults this year as your teacher.

Reach to realize your dreams and your potential.
