Honor Choir

Festus Intermediate Honor Choir is an auditioned choir consisting of 130 fourth, fifth and sixth grade students. The Honor Choir is directed by Mr. Joshua Rhine and accompanied by Mrs. Darcy Baldonado.  Mr. Rhine also is assisted by Mrs. Karen Graham and Mrs. Alicia Knickman. 

The Honor Choir was established by Mr. Rhine in 2009.  This group has been dedicated to rehearsals once a week for and hour and fifteen min.  The Honor Choir has proudly performed at Festus Intermediate’s Veteran’s Day Assembly, Festus Intermediate Art & Music Festival, Six Flags Music in the Parks Festival, and the National Anthem appearance the St. Louis Cardinals games each summer.  Mr. Rhine and the Honor Choir was also chosen to perform at the 73rd MMEA conference in January of 2011.   This year the choir will also be preparing a concert at Six Flags for the annual Six Flags Music Festival in May of 2017

Joshua Rhine began his career as a music educator in August of 1997 when he joined the Festus-R-VI school district.  While in the district he has taught 3rd – 6th grade choral and general music.  His interest in music began in elementary school in Mt. Vernon, Ill.   He studied music throughout high school under the direction of Mr. Brett Gibbs.  In college he studied with Dr. Christopher Goeke and Dr. John Egbert.  He also worked with Mr. Terry Edwards while student teaching in Perryville, MO and eventually received his Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Music Education from Southeast Missouri State University.  He continued his education while teaching at Festus under the direction of the late Dr. Fred Willman and has since then received a Masters in Elementary Music from the University of Missouri and a Master of Elementary Administration from William Woods University. 

Mr. Rhine is married to DeAnna Rhine and is the proud father of three children, Garrett,  McKenna  & Bryson.   Mr. Rhine has taken his choirs to Chicago, Disney World and many other festivals throughout the state of Missouri.  He is a member of CEAI (Christian Educators Association International) NAfME & Phi Mu Alpha.
