Welcome to the Festus Model UN webpage!

Who are we?

FHS Model United Nations (FMUN) is a student-led organization that studies current issues from a global perspective and participates in simulation exercises to solve problems.  Modeled on the United Nations, its focus is on international cooperation in problem solving and peace keeping.

What do we do?

Our group participates in two conferences each school year.  In November, we travel to the Southeast Missouri Model United Nations (SEMOMUN) at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.  In March we attend the Central Illinois High School Model United Nations (CIHSMUN) on the campus of Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois.

How do I join?

Joining FMUN is easy!  Simply stop by a meeting in Room 223 and pay your $5.00 dues.  At your first meeting you will get to know other members and choose a country to study and immerse yourself in.  At later meetings, you will be asked to choose particular issues to focus on and to write resolutions to present at conferences.  You, in short, will become our expert on that issue!

Thinking Globally - Acting Locally:

We are a group that prides itself on its diversity, flexibility, and initiative.  We promote authentic and genuine debate and value differences of opinion.  We work together as a team of open-minded individuals who make an honest attempt to understand and solve the issues presented to us.  Starting this year we will participate in a community service project with a global/local focus. More details to come! We welcome any student to take up our challenge and become a participating member of the global community!
