Get to know Mrs. Mailani Chang, your School Counselor:

Mrs. Chang has 470+ amazing children at Fern Elementary School and also has 4 more awesome children at home.  You can tell she absolutely loves children : )  She loves and enjoys working with people and studying different things .  In addition to 500+ students and teachers & staff members she enjoys working with daily at Fern school, she also takes care of 500+ passengers daily at the airport.   She works with 1000+ people daily. What a blessing!

Even though she has a Hawaiian name with a Chinese last name, she is really Japanese.  She was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan: one of the most exciting cities in the world.  When she was in high school, she came to the U.S. to study Music and Dance. 

She attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and studied Psychology and Vocal music.  She continued her education at Fort Valley University in Georgia and learned to become a School Counselor. 

Mrs. Chang’s practice of counseling is rooted upon Rogerian’s  “Person-Centered” approach.  Her motto is to provide unconditional positive regards to everybody she works with. 

Mrs. Chang has a lot of interests.  She especially loves science and anything & everything “beautiful” in the world.  She loves to learn how things work, she is especially interested in people’s amazing brain function and development.   She also loves to study about behavior and thoughts and feelings, and any possible preventive measures to keep people happy & healthy.  She loves to learn about people, customs and the diverse cultures.  In her spare time, she enjoys reading books, writing, playing, and listening to music.  She absolutely loves traveling with her husband and children.  Her favorite place to visit is Tokyo, Japan where her parents live.
