Primary Years Programme

What is PYP?

PYP stands for the Primary Years Programme which is the elementary level program of the International Baccalaureate. Thomas Jefferson Elementary was authorized as a PYP school in 2012.  At TJ, all students participate in the PYP through inquiry learning which seeks to prepare internationally minded students for the 21st century.

IB Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end, the organization works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences can also be right.
