Mrs. Schulenberg (Yellows)

My family was first introduced to F.B. Meekins in 2011 when were searching for a co-op for our second son, Ryan.  Our first son, Ben, had been to two different preschools while we lived in Arlington and then Mclean.  We were content with the schools, but were looking for a more welcoming, play-based program.  We definitely found it with Meekins!  We have since moved to Vienna and both Ryan and our daughter, Nora, have thrived at this wonderful preschool.  Both my children and I have found wonderful friends at Meekins and are so happy to have had 4 great years here.

I grew up in Rochester, NY and went to school at St. Bonaventure University.  I was planing a career in social work until I had a light bulb moment while interning at an on-campus preschool for students with special needs.  I graduated with a B.A. in sociology and immediately started working for a program called BOCES in New York, as an assistant during the school year and for summer school.  I then went on to teach preschool while I was in graduate school and received my M.S. in Special Education and Elementary Education from Nazareth College.  Since graduating, I taught in New York and in Virginia for FCPS.  I taught Special Education, Kindergarten and First grade.  I stopped teaching in 2006 when my first son was born and have stayed very busy keeping up with my 3 children. I remain very active in Ben, Ryan, and Nora's schools and love the tight-knit community we have found here in Vienna.

Now that my children are all in elementary school, I am excited to get back into teaching.  I can't think of a better, more child-centered, loving school to begin the next part of my journey with.  There is nothing better than seeing a child's face light up when they make a new discovery, or seeing the sense of wonder in their eyes as they are introduced to new exciting concepts.  I hope to have many years teaching at Meekins.
