1.1 Planning

Planning defines the things you need to do to get your farm from its current position to a desired future position.

In the guide attached below, we have described a simple way for comprehensively capturing all the tasks and information you require to help you achieve this desired future position. This guide will help you do your yearly farm planning. It will also ensure that you have all the up-to-date information you need for documents such as business plans. There is a table in this guide which suggests worksheets that can be used in each step of the planning process.

When you are planning, you will use information that may not be specific to planning. For example, when you examine your current position you will need your resource inventories and financial documents. Worksheets for these can be found by clicking on the appropriate link on the left hand side of the page. For instance, there is a worksheet for your farm revenues and expenses on the web page 1.3 Finances.

We have organized the planning-specific guides, worksheets and examples into 9 logical sections as shown below. You can download these documents from the webpage that you can get to from the appropriate link below.

Please note that our planning methodology is not necessarily a linear one. For example, when you have determined your shortfalls, you will need to go back and update your objectives and the activities and requirements for achieving them.
