8th Grade Parents:
The week beginning June 9, 2014 all 167 - 8th grade students will be participating in Discovery  Week. The 8th grade Discovery Week will have a strong service component. Part of the service component will include 8th grade students giving their time and energy and non profits and social service   agencies throughout greater Portland on Tuesday morning, June 10 from   approximately 9 am – 12 noon.

In past years, 8th grade students have served at 20 + nonprofits and agencies   including Ronald McDonald House, Riding to the Top, Portland Trails,  Partners for World Health, Falmouth Memorial Library, and the Preble Street Resource Center.

We will be working closely with the  transportation dept. to arrange for buses to transport many of the students, with parent and teacher chaperones, to their service experiences.  We will also need quite a number of parent volunteers to drive students to agencies and chaperon while there. We will most likely need 30 + volunteers on June 10. Parents interested in chaperoning on June 10th can contact Holly MacEwan directly

The feedback from parent volunteers in past years was that they really enjoyed the experience.

It seems early to be lining up chaperones for June now, but with 167 students and more than 40 adults going to close to 20 different agencies we need to secure chaperones now.

Thank you for considering. This experience would not be possible without the support of parent volunteers.

From Kim Marcotte & THE FMS PTO:

I know it is hard to start thinking about the upcoming 2014/2015 school year, but it will be here before you know it and now is the time to start thinking about ordering your fall school supplies!

I have worked with all three grade level middle school teachers to ensure that all necessary supplies are in your child's school kits (each grade level supply list can be viewed online when ordering). We are using a different company for our school kits this year called, 1st Day School Supplies. This company uses name-brand, durable products such as: Crayola, Avery & Mead and will customize the product colors to suit either a boy or girl. The website is up and currently ready to accept orders!

It is very easy to order these school kits online too. Just click on the following website:

1. Enter our town zip code.
2. Click which kit (grade & world language) you would like to purchase under the Falmouth Middle School tab.
3. Enter Student information.
4. Checkout.
5. DONE!

This year, for convenience, we have decided to have the school kits delivered to your home two weeks before the first day of school. The deadline to order is June 15th.

We are also using this as a small fundraiser for our PTO. As you may know, the PTO is important to the middle school and money raised by the PTO helps with teacher grants every year as well as many other school related activities. So, why not make your life a little easier and, at the same time, help the school PTO?

So please keep an eye out for flyers that will come home with your student(s) as well as emails relating to the purchase of these school kits.

Once again the website is:
and the deadline to order these kits is JUNE 15TH!

Any questions please contact Kim Marcotte at: - Thank you!

SUMMER THEATRE FUN is looking forward to their 13th season at the Falmouth Congregational Church! We have had so much fun in past seasons and know this summer will just as exciting.
SUMMER THEATRE FUN is a theatre camp for Kindergarten through Middle School that offers theatre arts training for young performers that is geared to the students’ age and interest. We sing, we dance, we play games, we do skits and improv - we learn to work together as an ensemble and have fun doing it. This is not a production-oriented class - but because performers LOVE to perform we do have an end of camp “presentation” for families and friends of the campers. There is a half-day camp that runs from 9 - 12 and a full day program that ends at 3. Parents and children are the best judges of which camp is best for them. Camp this year runs from June 23rd through July 3rd .Registration forms will be available at the Middle School and the elementary schools beginning the week of March 10th We look forward to a wonderful camp season! Dede Waite Theatre Director
