Hello from Aaron and Caitlan Small! We wanted to make a Blog to help keep our friends and family updated on what we are doing. Currently, we have both just finished our second year

at Duke Divinity School in Durham, NC, where we are both getting a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree. We have one more year left in the program so, Lord willing, we will be graduating in May 2014. We both love the Church so much, and have long felt called to spend our lives in ministry. We have been seeking God’s guidance as we discern exactly what that ministry will look like, and it has recently begun to really take shape. We are excited to share with you how God is leading us on this journey!

While we have always had a heart for missions, God recently confirmed our calling to overseas ministry. This March we went on a weekend prayer retreat and took some set-apart time to pray intentionally about our lives and our future. We did not share what we felt God was leading us towards with each other until the end of the retreat, and it was amazing to see how God had placed the exact same things on both of our hearts! We both felt a strong call to teach and plant churches in urban environments in Southeast Asia – particularly Indonesia or Thailand. We still do not know many specifics (what cities, where to teach, if we are to do both at the same time or at different stages in life, etc.), but we were very excited that God has shown us this next step. Having some more clarity about what exactly we are preparing for has made our coursework and internship experiences seem more meaningful and directed. Over this next year as we finish school we will be researching and applying to missions agencies and discerning how we can best transition into overseas ministry. Please pray for us as God continues to guide us each step of the way!

In addition to these long-term plans, we also have a very exciting ministry opportunity happening this summer! Part of our degree program involves participating in internships at various churches that the Divinity School staff assigns us to. These internships allow us to gain firsthand ministry experience, integrate what we are learning in the classroom into the church, and receive mentoring from a pastoral supervisor. Last summer we were both interns at Rocky Mount UMC in Mooresville, NC, and this academic year Caitlan was the intern at Fairview UMC in Elon, NC (Aaron will do his academic year placement next year). Both of these internships have been fantastic! We have learned so much and have been so blessed and welcomed by the congregations. Our current field education internship placement for Summer 2013 is at Westview Methodist Church, which is near Pretoria in South Africa. Caitlan went to South Africa 5 years ago through Wheaton College to learn about urban ministries, but this will be Aaron’s first time there. This opportunity will allow us to gain more cross-cultural church ministry experience as a couple. We are looking forward to learning from our brothers and sisters in Christ in South Africa, and seeing how God is moving and working in the church there!

This week we are visiting Aaron’s family in Pennsylvania, but we will be flying to South Africa on Monday, May 13. We do not know much about our placement yet, but our supervisor has asked us to familiarize ourselves with driving stick shift. This is the first of what I’m sure will be many exciting challenges, as both of us only know how to drive automatic. So, we have a week to learn to drive stick shift, and to imagine how that will look while driving on the opposite side of the road! We would appreciate your prayers. :)While we may have limited access to the internet this summer, we will still be sure to update our Blog posts and put up pictures regularly. Thank you for reading, and stay tuned for more stories from our adventures in ministry!

“I'm currently in Janesville, WI just an hour and a half away from where I used to live in Chicago. My husband is a youth pastor here and I've been keeping busy assisting him, making connections with other moms in the church and taking care of our almost 2 year old son Zeke. It always seems like there isn't much to say when people ask us what is new in our lives because between both youth groups and home life and keeping up with friends we seem to always be going somewhere. That's just "normal" for us and we like it that way. We have been really blessed at where God has placed us with a great church with supportive leadership who just really enable us to teach and help the youth grow in their walk with Christ. It's really incredible to see. God is constantly reminding us and showing us just how blessed we are. The biggest news and blessing lately is that we have baby 2 coming this May and so we're absolutely excited about that."

I graduated in 2002.  I'm now married to a Filipina, Ginny and we are about to have our first son, mid-April.  Currently I'm the leader of World Missions for Jesus.  We have ministries for children in the TakTak area in Antipolo (about 120 kids each week).  We are currently working on building a church for the community and getting sponsorship for them with Compassion Intl.  We have a band and worship team called Gloryfall.  We have released 4 albums internationally and have trained over 100 church bands.  We also do evangelistic concerts.  We have a professional recording studio where we help Christian bands record in order to spread the gospel through music.  Right now, I'm working with a group of people in the Christian music community start a Christian Music Association.

Matthew and Chelsea (Nelson) Connor live in Malukus, Indonesia with our two kids Indeah Grace (2 1/2 years) and Josiah Matthew (1 year). Matthew helps communities plan Scripture use programs and recently built a recording studio for recording Bible stories and songs in local languages. Chelsea gets to hang out with our kids and is in the process of organizing the Wycliffe Maluku library and whatever other planning/organizing jobs that no one else has time for. We pretty much have the best jobs in the world :)

Indeah is busy learning Ambonese Malay, holding every baby she can get her hands on, and playing with our neighbor friends. Josiah is very eager to try out his new walk/run all over our neighborhood, is full of snuggles and laughter, and is very focused on whatever task/toy is at hand.  chelsea_connor@wycliffe.net

I recently started my second year at International Community School in Bangkok, Thailand. I teach 4-year old kindergarten and absolutely love it and love living in Thailand. I enjoy exploring this beautiful country and its neighboring countries too. I hope to make it back to the Philippines again soon. This year I have the privilege of working alongside another Faith alum- Katie Stapleton Martens ('02) and her husband Steve Martens ('02)! Last year I enjoyed having several reunions with Faith friends whether here in Thailand, in Myanmar, or in the US this past summer. Those reunions are always so memorable and special. Let me know if you are ever passing through Bangkok!  katieacole@gmail.com
