The Q-nection: Beautiful Beginnings

The time between Christmas and the end of January always seems to go by too fast, but we hope that this has been a season pregnant with joy and hope and that you are seeing beautiful things birthed from it.

At Mae Fah Luang, conversations, possibilities, and hearts are opening. Last week, I sat down with a Thai teacher to plan out our semester. It led to a conversation about his search for God and what he thinks about Christianity. Then I shared an elevator and a short conversation with the President of the University. Then I got a chance to catch up with the Vice President, who invited me to his house for dinner sometime.

This week, we began classes again. I am teaching a Mythology class, and it has alreadyopened up conversations with students about mankind's search for meaning in the world, the way that love is what brings us from darkness to light, and our tendency to craft gods in our own image. Already, the Lord is positioning us for those critical moments in people's lives where we will have the opportunity to invite them into his kingdom and his family.

As another praise report, you may remember the English Corner we began with a number of Chinese students last year. We partnered with another young missionary family and a local Chinese teacher in hopes that the practice of English would lead to conversations about faith. As that began happening, we felt comfortable leaving the Chinese students in the hands of the local church they had begun attending and that other young missionary family, who had just arrived in the country and decided to make the Chinese group the focus of their ministry here. Just this week, another of those students, Isabel, has decided to give her life to Christ. Isabel has always been the most influential member of the group, so her conversion carries so much weight for the other members of the group that haven't found Jesus yet. Furthermore, every semester new Chinese students come to Thailand as exchange students and join the group. We are believing that her story and her influence will make it that much easier for new Chinese students to put their faith in Jesus.

Thank you for being a faithful part of our team and a witness to all these beautiful beginnings with us. We look forward to sharing this year with you. We would also love to hear about your new beginnings, or the challenges you are facing right now. Please feel free to just hit "reply" to this message and send us a little line about something we can celebrate with you or pray with you about.

We Love You,

Andrew, Jacki, August, & Reese Quinley

“I'm currently in Janesville, WI just an hour and a half away from where I used to live in Chicago. My husband is a youth pastor here and I've been keeping busy assisting him, making connections with other moms in the church and taking care of our almost 2 year old son Zeke. It always seems like there isn't much to say when people ask us what is new in our lives because between both youth groups and home life and keeping up with friends we seem to always be going somewhere. That's just "normal" for us and we like it that way. We have been really blessed at where God has placed us with a great church with supportive leadership who just really enable us to teach and help the youth grow in their walk with Christ. It's really incredible to see. God is constantly reminding us and showing us just how blessed we are. The biggest news and blessing lately is that we have baby 2 coming this May and so we're absolutely excited about that."

I graduated in 2002.  I'm now married to a Filipina, Ginny and we are about to have our first son, mid-April.  Currently I'm the leader of World Missions for Jesus.  We have ministries for children in the TakTak area in Antipolo (about 120 kids each week).  We are currently working on building a church for the community and getting sponsorship for them with Compassion Intl.  We have a band and worship team called Gloryfall.  We have released 4 albums internationally and have trained over 100 church bands.  We also do evangelistic concerts.  We have a professional recording studio where we help Christian bands record in order to spread the gospel through music.  Right now, I'm working with a group of people in the Christian music community start a Christian Music Association.

We are also currently raising support to return to the Philippines, Lord willing, in May of 2012 as missionaries with the organization TeachBeyond.  Stephen will be working with a seminary in Manila, and our children will be the third generation in our family to attend Faith Academy!  We have three kids Ava (5), Lucy (3), and Simon (1).  We can be reached at pardues@gmail.com

Matthew and Chelsea (Nelson) Connor live in Malukus, Indonesia with our two kids Indeah Grace (2 1/2 years) and Josiah Matthew (1 year). Matthew helps communities plan Scripture use programs and recently built a recording studio for recording Bible stories and songs in local languages. Chelsea gets to hang out with our kids and is in the process of organizing the Wycliffe Maluku library and whatever other planning/organizing jobs that no one else has time for. We pretty much have the best jobs in the world :)

Indeah is busy learning Ambonese Malay, holding every baby she can get her hands on, and playing with our neighbor friends. Josiah is very eager to try out his new walk/run all over our neighborhood, is full of snuggles and laughter, and is very focused on whatever task/toy is at hand.  chelsea_connor@wycliffe.net

I recently started my second year at International Community School in Bangkok, Thailand. I teach 4-year old kindergarten and absolutely love it and love living in Thailand. I enjoy exploring this beautiful country and its neighboring countries too. I hope to make it back to the Philippines again soon. This year I have the privilege of working alongside another Faith alum- Katie Stapleton Martens ('02) and her husband Steve Martens ('02)! Last year I enjoyed having several reunions with Faith friends whether here in Thailand, in Myanmar, or in the US this past summer. Those reunions are always so memorable and special. Let me know if you are ever passing through Bangkok!  katieacole@gmail.com
